The Do's & Don'ts Of Veterinary Education

By Robin Setser

Do you love animals and would like to help them? If this is the case, perhaps you'd like to enroll in a program at a veterinary school. With this type of education, you will be able to help sick animals, providing them with the care that they need so that they can become well. Back to the topic of school, however, there are many ways that you can get the most out of this experience. Here are a few do's and don'ts that will help you do exactly that.

DO attend each class you take in veterinary school. It's been said that college trumps high school in terms of attendance. In most cases, if you end up missing a class, you don't have to worry about being marked down. The downside of missing a class, however, is that it can be difficult to make up the material that you missed. For this reason alone, during your time in vet school, it pays to attend each class you're scheduled for.

DON'T forget to study outside of your classes. If you take the time to educate yourself outside of your classes, you may end up performing better. Let's say that you research PEMF therapy for animals, which may not be covered in all classes. This can provide you with a level of information you wouldn't have had otherwise. It may also boost your confidence level, which will make you all the more likely to partake in class discussion.

DO take advantage of study groups. Are you the kind of person that prefers to study alone? While there's nothing wrong with this, it may prove worthwhile to study in groups, especially for courses that you feel you can do better in. Not only will this provide you with a solid network to work with, but the opportunity to make new friends as well. Study groups offer numerous benefits, but you must become involved to take advantage of them.

DON'T let stress take hold. When you must account for numerous projects, exams, and assignments in veterinary school, stress can build. There are ways to relieve said stress so that you stay motivated. If it's a nice day out, take a walk to enjoy some fresh air. You should also think about taking part in yoga, which has become quite popular at colleges across the board. These are just a few ways to relieve stress, so focus on relieving it as soon as possible.
