Take Advantage Of The North Carolina State Board Of Examiners Of Electrical Contractors

By Eloise Hewitt

When building the house of your dreams, one needs to be very careful when finding someone to put in electricity. Using the North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors, you will get the most reliable person to do the job. Electrical contractors employ people based on the level of training and experience one might have.

If you are unlucky and do not pass the exam you will need to wait for the same classification before re-taking it. Depending on what your scores were you will need to wait a few months before one is able to rewrite. If your percentage was between 74 and 65 percent a waiting period of 3 months is required. A failure of 64 % and below requires a wait of 6 months.

All contractors are classified into three types depending on the work that they perform. The first is the "Line" contractor, who works with high voltage power and distribution lines. They are there to maintain and build the system that transports electricity. This is generated at a power plant before being used in buildings and homes.

Electricians are normally trained under one of these four categories in order to obtain proper licences and certificates. They are general electrician, construction, mining, or engineering electrician. The first is a person that will specialise in wiring of buildings and machines that do not move. They will also repair and maintain the existing infrastructure.

The last is "voice/data/video" whose main work is with low-voltage installations. These include working with fibre optics, security systems, and telecommunications. The fibre optic is a transparent and flexible fibre made from silica or plastic. It is a little thicker than a human hair and works as a light pipe for electric current to travel through.

If you are going to take your examinations for limited, unlimited or intermediate you will have 6 hours to complete it. This will enable you to obtain your electrical contracting license. It is a multiple choice paper of 100 questions.

A linesman is also classified as one that maintains as well as installs TV cable, telephone etc. They generally spend their working hours outdoors. When working with live power lines they must be cut off from the ground. Special conductive clothing must be worn and this is then connected to the live power line. There is a chance that he can still be electrocuted if he mistakenly handles both ends of the broken conductor at the same time.

The All Classifications exam is an open book. Each person will be provided with the current Nations Electrical Code book. This is done so that the examiners will be able to see how well the person has understood the fundamentals of all installations.

Before registering for this examination one must first get authorization from the board. Once this is done the application form and the necessary fees and any other information that is required needs to be returned to them. If you are approved you will receive a letter stating this. Only one sitting for the exam is allowed, if you fail the whole process will need to be repeated.
