Learn As Much As You Can About The Much Discussed Peptide Drug Discovery

By Serena Price

No other industry experiences so much controversy as the pharmaceutical industry when a new drug is introduced on the market. Peptide drug discovery is not a new phenomenon. It is under huge scrutiny at the moment and new research has come to light making it quite the sought-after drug. It is a value-added protein drug which has seized the attention of the sporting industry as it assists with muscle building and strength training.

So what are peptides? In a sense, peptides can be described as the building blocks that create protein. They are commonly used in the body building community. Body builders use them for their anabolic effect on an athlete's muscle mass. Peptides help the muscle or soft tissue in the healing procedure. This is particularly important when a bodybuilder or an athlete injure themselves. If they then take the peptides, healing is much more rapid. In the end, there will be an increase in muscle mass and body fat will be reduced in a shorter time frame.

Peptides have gained a lot of interest as a supplement. It is easily digested by the body and is considered to be much more beneficial and stable within the body. This is because peptides influence how our bodies react to physical exercise and diet. Athletes are reaching for peptides to help give them that upper edge in their game of choice.

Peptides are not only used for bodybuilding. There are some peptides that are used in skin care products as it has anti-aging properties. The most common one used in skin care products is collagen stimulating peptides. They come in the form of serums and creams and may take some time to work and make a difference.

Not all peptides are accepted by sports governing bodies. Some are administered through injection and most often these are the ones which have banned. When injected, the peptide increases lean body mass and lowers fat percentage which is quite an advantage for the athlete. It also improves recovery time after a workout.

The testing of these drugs is not complete. In fact there is insufficient research and evidence that these drugs are safe for human consumption. The long term effects have not yet been established and there are a lot of rumors that peptides play a role in diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

The big question is, are peptides steroids? Well, the answer is no, they are not, but both peptides and steroids are hormones that have different effects on the body. Steroids are similar to testosterone whereas peptides affect the growth hormone. Steroids have been used (mostly illegally) for a lot longer than peptides which is new on the scene.

It is critical to ensure that you check if the peptide you choose to take meets the requirements and standards of the FDA. Peptide drug discovery is still relatively new and not much research is available on the consequences of taking this drug. The outlook, however, does seem rather positive.
