An Insight On Rubber Extrusion Companies

By Georgia Diaz

Man has been employing extrusion methods to create utility objects ever since its inception around the late 1700s.If the raw material is too tough to be formed under pressure, it may have to be melted under high temperature before taking it to the die. Today, rubber extrusion companies are among the biggest consumers of natural and synthetic rubbers.

The raw material that is to be molten is referred to as the stock. In some cases, malleable stocks may be simply pushed through the forming die with the aid of a ram press. The press multiplies applied force from a machine or a hand lever through hydraulic action. Some companies may also subject their products to heat treatment to improve some properties.

The plant owner must insist on quality hydraulic presses for a long productive life. The working fluid should not freeze during winter nor should it overheat on a busy day. Besides these properties, it should provide adequate lubrication for small clearance and should not corrode metallic parts. One may have to infuse it with glass powder lubricant if he suspects that the high temperature will reduce the fluid viscosity.

A ram cylinder must have an inbuilt safety mechanism in case the maximum allowable pressures are exceeded. The pressure relief valve is simply a springy plunger that fits in a small hole with a passage to the main reservoir. When the main pumping mechanism increases pressure beyond the resistive force of the spring, the plunger retracts enough to discharge some oil into the storage chamber. In this manner, the system is protected from bursting the joints and rubber piping.

Extrusion is distinct from molding simply because of the use of pressure to form the stock into required shapes. After this, the objects may be taken to the autoclave, a vessel used for heat treatment. This technique is popularly used to manufacture gaskets and seals that are used in fuel and lubrication systems of automobiles.

The world demand is met through both natural and synthetic rubber. The former is extracted from trees that produce sticky latex when their stems are cut. This liquid gets this property because it has a high concentration of natural polymers with strong forces of attraction. Nevertheless, it has to be harnessed and preprocessed in a factory before it is packaged for sale to customers.

Latex containing trees are native to the South American sub continent but today they are also found in Africa, Europe, Singapore and Indonesia. Farmers may have to wait for almost a decade to start tapping the precious liquid but once production begins, it can last for close to three decades. Before establishing the crop, one should identify an area with sufficient rainfall and well drained alluvial soils.

The economic lifespan of a plant is dependent on the manner in which tapping is done. In general about forty percent of the raw material used by rubber extrusion companies is from natural sources. The bigger portion is derived from petrochemical sources. Synthetics are used where the goods produced are exposed to harsh conditions such as heat, oils, chemicals and ultraviolet light. Today, this material is in use in textile making factories, automobile production lines and sporting events all over the world.
