The Advantages Of Using A 4 Drum Spill Pallet

By Celia Hall

One of the most important tools that are used in industries that create waste that is potentially toxic is a 4 drum spill pallet. This tool is a flat unit that can hold up to four barrels of liquid which could be toxic or acidic. The tool is made from translucent polyethylene which forms the base and the walls of the unit.

The unit has a porous gird cover which holds up the barrels. This tool is a valuable tool to use in these industries that will avoid further damage made to the planet. Laws have been put into place to prevent toxic spills and leakage which inspired the creation of these liquid catching tools.

The wall of the containment unit that is made from polyethylene is translucent so that if leakage occurs, someone can see it and take measures to prevent any further leakage. Concrete can be used to make these units, but they corrode extensively if the containment unit holds extremely strong acids therefore it's better to use other types of materials to make the bed. In the case of extremely large containment units that are the size of buildings such as gas works, bunds fulfill the same functionality as the spillage bed when using small steel containment units.

A bund container; which is another term for these spillage catchers, prevents possible spillage of toxic fluids and acids. Bunds are can carry the weight of huge containers and are commonly made from concrete. The outside wall of the bund will be placed within an earth berm.

These bunds are also placed on earth berms which simply are leveled earth that is in a ditch like formation, or a flat hole in the earth. The walls of the berm are earth that slopes upwards like a lip. This is an additional method to avoid the spread of toxic waste in case the bund collapses. It is not recommended to contain acid in such large building containers because it is corrosive and can get through concrete and if it escapes, it's impossible to contain.

There are quite a few versions of this type of bed-like tools that can come in different sizes, different holding capacities and thicknesses. Bunds for example; are used for huge building like structures that contain harmful liquids or flammable things like oil or gas. Bunds that are commonly constructed with reinforced concrete surround these buildings and are there to catch any kind of liquid.

In the case of flammable substances, the bund will be air tight and water proof however; if there is water contamination, it will be treated accordingly. The earth under and around the bund is called an earth berm which is a ditch-like hollow in the earth. An earth berm is leveled below the level of the ground and the walls of the berm generally go upward creating a lip effect. In the case of excessive leakage of both the containment structure and the bund, the berm will hold any excess leakage without creating harmful spillage.

The earth is in a bad condition and tools such as a 4 drum spill pallet and bunds for huge structures are necessary to prevent further damage. They are valuable tools to use to have the peace of mind that toxic spills can be prevented if the proper measures are put in place. As time goes on, new inventions that are specifically designed to protect the earth from additional damage are being made. These tools are just a part of the effort to make a difference.
